This free Drop-In Lesson Forms Framework is designed to help independent school leaders carry out short, focused lesson drop-ins that gather meaningful evidence about teaching, learning, behaviour, inclusion, assessment, pupil engagement and progress. It includes separate forms for primary and secondary settings, with clear prompt questions and Red, Amber and Green descriptors to support consistent, evidence-informed observations.
The resource has been carefully structured around key areas that link closely to ISI-style quality assurance, including lesson objectives and planning, curriculum continuity, subject knowledge, teaching methods, pupil attitudes, differentiation, behaviour, learning environment, assessment, responsiveness and progress over time. It also includes subject-specific sections, helping leaders and subject specialists look more closely at the features of effective practice in areas such as English, mathematics and science.
Use this resource to make lesson drop-ins more focused, consistent and useful for school improvement. Schools can use the forms independently or integrate them directly into our Flourish Quality Assurance software, where drop-in evidence can be stored, analysed and tracked using powerful reporting tools such as heat maps and trend analysis.
