This free Drop-In Lesson Forms Framework is designed to help school leaders carry out short, focused lesson drop-ins that gather meaningful evidence about the quality of teaching, learning, behaviour, inclusion, assessment, and pupil progress. It includes separate forms for primary and secondary settings, with clear prompt questions and Red, Amber and Green descriptors to support consistent, evidence-informed judgements during informal classroom visits.
The resource has been carefully structured around key areas that link closely to Ofsted-style quality assurance, including lesson objectives and planning, subject knowledge, curriculum sequencing, learner engagement, differentiation, behaviour and classroom climate, assessment for learning, feedback, and progress towards learning outcomes. It also includes subject-specific sections, helping leaders and subject specialists look more closely at the features of effective practice in areas such as English, mathematics, science and humanities.
Use this resource to make lesson drop-ins more focused, consistent and useful for school improvement. Schools can use the forms independently or integrate them directly into our Flourish Quality Assurance software, where drop-in evidence can be stored, analysed, and tracked using powerful reporting tools such as heat maps and trend analysis.
