This free Lesson Observation Framework is designed to help schools adapt their monitoring and quality assurance practices in line with the Ofsted inspection framework (November 2025). Aligned with the Teachers' Standards, it provides a structured approach for observing lessons across key focus areas – including curriculum and planning, teaching and modelling, questioning, assessment, inclusion, behaviour, engagement, and pupil outcomes. Each area is broken down into clear descriptors ranging from urgent improvement to exceptional, giving leaders a consistent tool for evaluating teaching quality.
Use this framework to carry out effective lesson observations and provide evidence-based feedback. Schools can use it independently or integrate it directly into our Flourish Quality Assurance software, where observation records can be stored, analysed, and tracked using powerful reporting tools such as heat maps and trend analysis.
