Whole School Review Checklist

This free Whole School Review Checklist is a self-evaluation framework designed to help schools review the overall effectiveness of their provision across key areas of school life. It guides reviewers through structured prompts that explore inclusion, curriculum and teaching quality, pupil achievement, behaviour and attendance, personal development, leadership, and safeguarding. Each section contains specific questions that help leaders evaluate how well the school meets pupils' needs, how effectively teaching and learning are implemented, and whether systems are supporting strong outcomes for all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged backgrounds.

The checklist also focuses on the broader environment and systems that underpin school success. It encourages reflection on pupil progress and readiness for future stages, behaviour expectations and attendance improvement, opportunities for character development and wellbeing support, and the quality of leadership, governance, and safeguarding culture. By answering prompts and recording comments, schools can identify strengths, areas for development, and trends over time, helping leaders make informed improvement decisions and monitor the impact of their strategies.

Use this framework to carry out effective self-reviews and provide evidence-based feedback. Schools can use it independently or integrate it directly into our Flourish Quality Assurance software, where self-evaluation records can be stored, analysed, and tracked using powerful reporting tools such as heat maps and trend analysis.
